Back from army
Posted at 21:57.01 and filed under Uncategorized, Musings, Rantingsand it’s been a pretty good time actually, come to think of it. Other than the chance to meet up with old pals and meet some new ppl, it was also a chance to get away from the civilian world for a while. Not that i really hate the civilian world or love them military one, but I always feel that having some variety in your life is good.
Of cos this time round we have a new boss, who was called up for his 1st ICT in almost 10 yrs. I’m in the manpower branch, so that makes him the unit’s manpower officer, or what we call S1. 2.5 yrs of NSF and clerking taught me many things, one of which is the selective respecting of ppl who have a higher rank than me (anything above CPL). By respect, i dun mean the one that i give to his rank, that is a must in a regimental environment. I’m more concerned whether the person is able to command real respect. S1 rates our performance, we rate his too. For me, my boss should either take good care of the men, or really know his stuff and makes sure we know our stuff. Best is both.
If the boss lacks the former, he can still command the branch and work can get done, even though morale may not be at the peak.
If the boss lacks the latter, he would need capable staff who are willing to work for him since he takes care of them.
If the boss lacks both, he can go fly kite liaoz. That’s my boss, who is scared to get arrowed, who is not worried to arrow us to do stupid things, who does not protect us from external arrows from irrelevant ppl.. 8 more ICTs with him, prepare to die liaoz..
On another note, we had a 2 very good evenings on wed n thurs, our last nights in ICT. Wed, after coming back from the exercise, immediately booked out go Jurong point for dinner, then West Coast Recreational Centre for pool and bowling. Thurs did the same thing. Now back sore, arms sore… shiok…
