Just got a new pc and 22inch lcd screen recently. Dad paid for them and re-exported the old set to my grandma’s place in penang.

Huge casing

the good thing about running a macbook pro is that u can do a dual display, the 22″ forms the top part of the larger screen.. i just have to move my mouse upwards to move into the top screen where i work on my photos…ok messy table i noe…

Did i mention my new mouse, Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse..heh.. bluetooth baby! it’s a pure laser mouse, as opposed to the red beam LED mice which are inaccurate on some surfaces like glass.. my mouse now works from 10m away and on any surfaces, including my head

Anyway my parents got a fengshui master to our place, who said that our living room orientation is wrong..must literally flip ard..so its a mess @ home now..with painting, new furniture etc.
.

Ppl have been working hard…until they have to rest in weird orientations relative to each other

The best thing that the fengshui master said is that my sis and me would bring fortune to the family, and that i would get a gf soon who would also bring wealth to the family.. Cues in fortune cat action…

A Jaipur Wedding

Posted at 10:21.17 and filed under Visual Orgy

Got this series of photos back in june in Jaipur City, Rajasthan, India. Basically I was hiding in my room at nite, trying to escape the 40+°C heat outside. At 11 plus pm, there was suddenly a lot of music being played on the street outside the hotel. A wedding procession was taking place, at midnight! So i quickly cheong down in my running shorts n singlets with my 50mm lens and flash unit on the camera..

Bangkok Day 2

Wednesday, 21 February 2007
Posted at 03:02.53 and filed under Visual Orgy

I was surprised that I could wake up on my own (w/o alarm) at 7am the next morning. Put it that way, I was so tired that i din even bother crawling under the blanket and ended up sleeping on top. The hostel costs included daily breakfast at a small restaurant next door, which supposedly serves italian food. I was going there to have american breakfast. The deco included figurines like this: Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Go figure…

The day’s itinerary surrounded exploring the Wat (temples) along the banks of the Chao Praya river.  It was surprisingly chilly when i stepped out and walked to the nearby Skytrain station, Asok.

Took the skytrain to Saphan Taksin Station where the Chao Praya Express river boat stops at Sathon (aka Central) Pier.  A ride on the boat costs 13baht from Sathon to Tha Chang, where the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) is.  It becomes apparent on how impt the river is to Bangkok when I saw that much of the activities and administration used to be centred along the river.  Top hotels have their own piers and boats to ferry their tourists, and ppl live along the river by building their houses alongside. I thought I would post up the match photos first. The touristy photos those can come abit later. Anyway i wrote this on ClubSnap forums, so basically just transplanted over

Was one of the 100 odd fans who made their way down, though i travelled on my own. With the bitter result from the 1st leg, this match promised fireworks. Sadly i only have my 17-85 f/4-5.6 and my 50mm f/1.8. So, alot of cropping for the action shots, not to mention the blurred motion. The stadium was located within a stone throw’s distance from MBK.

Walking towards the stadium

Bangkok Day 1

Thursday, 8 February 2007
Posted at 21:08.42 and filed under Musings, Visual Orgy

And so last Friday was the day when I started perhaps the craziest trip that I’ve done in the past 2 yrs: Fly to Bangkok to watch the 2nd leg final of the Asean Football Championship between Singapore and Thailand, on my own.

Another first is flying out from the Budget Terminal for the 1st time, and the 1st cockup of the trip.  I rode over to T2 and thought, hey BT should be close enough.  No point talking across whole of Carpark C back into T2 to take the free shuttle.  Just walk over lor, how long can it take.

Not long, only 20 minutes.  Not alot of things to carry, just my backpack, a small daypack, a camera bag and a tripod.

Smart right?

I didn’t expect much from BT, but I guessed it was pretty fine.  Imagine a giant warehouse, with a/c.  Warehouse i kid you not.

DFS Shops, dun worry, BT also can buy liquor

What I liked were the cheery colours and the various small makan outlets in the Departure Lounge.

So everyone mulls around the area until the gate opens, and surges there, cos 1st come 1st served seating.  The plane wasn’t full and the cabin crew claimed that they have to distribute weight, so it’s sorta of assigned seating.  I convinced them that with my long legs, I should sit at the emergency door row.  What more with my weight, it’s better i sit near the mid-section of the plane, then can balance mah :D

2 hour flight and I was greeted by this huge ass airport in Bangkok.  Really really huge, probably the size of T1 and T2 combined, with the immigration area as big as either T1 or T2 alone.

So that led to damn long Qs at immigration, which I thought i was very used to, with all my JB experience.  But 30 mins, this takes the cake!  World class airport to challenge Changi? erm…

You’re supposed to check the LCD screen to find out which belt to collect your luggage from.  Mysteriously Tiger Airways TR118 is not on the screen.  So i walked ard for 20 mins, in the equally big luggage area trying to find my bag.  And i found it lying on the floor next to the luggage belt.  Thanks yea.

The cab ride into the city was pretty smooth, with the driver hitting 130km/h pretty often.  No problem with that for me, 30 minutes to get to Sukhumvit Soi 25 where my hostel is.  A quick check-in and I was ready to hit the streets.  Went over to the Silom area, where the Suan Lam Night Market is.

Esplanade as well, but i think more mainstream than our durians.  Theirs look more like erm..pomelo..

The main difference between Singaporean and Thai culture became clear outside Silom MRT Station.

Do this in Singapore, be prepared for holiday, at Changi Hotel.

I settled for a bottle of beer and garlic stir-fried sliced pork with rice..Beer Chang!

A lot of small shops selling craft, clothes and home deco.  I wasn’t coming to shop, so i settled for 3 beer t-shirts.  The kind that you always see my Taiwan buddy wear one..haha!

Part 2 of makan over @ a nearby outdoor food court.  You buy coupons from a main counter and the food stalls only accept those coupons.  Tried the papaya with pork salad and fried sea mussels but wasn’t pretty impressed.

Decided to go back to the hostel just after midnight, and the taxis there are the same as Singapore.  They don’t hide before 12am, but after 12am, all the fare meters mysteriously spoil and they quote u ridiculous prices.  The tuktuk drivers are the same as the taxi drivers, except they do it whole day.  So being the cheapo, i paid 50baht for a motorcycle taxi.  1 word, shiok!

Went for a walk in the red light district near my hostel.  Don’t worry, i’m still pure after the walk.

Serious!

Grape in Microwave

Saturday, 6 January 2007
Posted at 02:50.33 and filed under Visual Orgy

Way cool lah, someone pls lemme try @ home..or we can go 7-eleven…heh..

Got the video and the following explanation from Popular Science Blog

Far be it from us to deride anyone’s childish fascination with blowing stuff up in a microwave—a foolhardy nerd rite of passage if ever there was one—and what better place to exhibit dangerous, potentially expensive shenanigans than YouTube? The experiment is simple. Take a seedless grape and slice it lengthwise, making sure (this part is important) not to cut all the way through, so you leave a little bit of skin connecting the two halves. Put it face-up in a microwave, and blam: fireworks!

So what the heck is going on in there? Grapes are chock-full of electrolyte, an ion-rich liquid (a.k.a. “grape juice”) that conducts electricity. Each grape-half serves as a reservoir of electrolyte, connected together by a thin, weakly conducting path (the skin). Microwaves cause the stray ions in the grape to travel back and forth very quickly between the two halves. As they do this, the current dumps excess energy into the skin bridge, which heats up to a high temperature and eventually bursts into flame. At this point, the traveling electrons arc through the flame and across the gap, ionizing the air to a plasma (which itself can conduct electricity) and creating the bright flashes you see.

And that notion about poisonous gas tainting your roommate’s Hot Pocket? Well, the guy’s talking about the ozone generated when the air inside the glass is ionized. “Poisonous” might be too a strong word in this scenario (a little ozone definitely won’t kill you), although high concentrations of ozone can oxidize lung tissue and have been known to cause asthma in urban inversion-bowls like L.A. and Mexico City.

Again, DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME. Microwave ovens + biological capacitors = bad news. —Martha Harbison.
